I think the main problem is that some glyph loaders do one thing when
"autohinting" and another when not. A glyph loader should have no business
with an autohinter: it should load outlines (in font coordinate space),
period.

To illustrate the issue, I quoted the word "autohinting" because it's not
clear whether it means "called by the autohinter while analyzing" or
"called by the autohinter while gridfitting" or something else...
