Mike,

I'm not the best person to tell you about the current version, since I'm
still using FreeType 1.2. What I can say for sure is that the FreeType
developers were quite careful to make it platform independent; I found it
easy to use the library for an application that runs on Macintosh as well
as Windows.

I don't know if this will help you with the current version, but
essentially all that was necessary was to edit one file, named FT_CONF.H.
Among other things, it needed to include the line "#define WORDS_BIGENDIAN".

Are you able to compile the library? Does it include a file FT_CONF.H?
