First of all, thank you very much for your reply.  :-)

I just did more test on the font: it seems that FreeType 1.x does recognize
the font, but FreeType 2.x doesn't:

        $ ftlint 24 /home/foka/MING_UNI.TTF             # FreeType 2
        unknown format

        $ ftlint1 24 /home/foka/MING_UNI.TTF            # FreeType 1
        MING_UNI.TTF: Error with
          glyph 35787: Invalid composite glyph.
          1 fail.

And "ftview1 24 /home/foka/MING_UNI.TTF" can be used to view the font.
So, I guess each of FreeType 2.x and MING_UNI.TTF has a small bug of their
own.  Let's see if we can try to fix both.  :-)  Meanwhile, I should upgrade
to the latest FreeType 2.1.x (CVS STABLE branch) and do more testing.
