[Devel] Bad chars in mozilla/verdana

I do not know where to begin my search, so may be somebody saw this:

I am using standard MS font Verdana, on www.liberation.com (french
newspaper). Well, CSS is using verdana, at least. But I have some
strange artefacts with some accented chars

Does anybody know where it could come from? I have a quite recent
freetype version (debian unstable) as well as mozilla, etc.

Hints would be welcome. ftstring and openoffice having not this problem,
I think the problem is not in freetype.
