Hi all,
I know lots of people are getting interested in Open Data. Since
http://data.gov.uk/ launched, lots of talk seems to be happening about
tools, formats, datasets, how to use them and so on. Even better from
my point of view, lots of developers are starting to think about
information visualisation and lots of designers are thinking about
coding...
Anyway, I thought it would be a great idea to start a local group
focused on this, supported by a mailing list (yes, another Google
Group! Woop!), where we could share information about what's out there
and how to use it. Once in a while we might even get to do a Hack Day
as well. The mailing list is open so I'm hoping it becomes a really
good place to share ideas and tips.

This isn't the same project as the BBC Backstage Unconference some of
you might be attending at MDDA, but I'm willing to bet there will be a
large overlap:

Specifically what makes us needed here is that we want to run a
regular meetup, and over time we want to start exploring data sets
Manchester's local authorities will release to the public. That means
you should get involved if:
- You want to learn more about open data tools, datasets,
visualisation and the like
- You're interested in data sets about Manchester in particular
- You're awesomely well connected with people who fall in to the first
two categories :-)
