I think there is enough background in terms of devolpers using VS to create that package of sources (or even binaries) in order to make life easier for people starting using getfem.
there is also some undefined behavior which trigger the runtime debug assertin in VS (at least in getfem 3.1). I sent a CMake build system a few month ago on the ML. but it was extracted from a bigger project so perhaps not 100% working (and only for 3.1 version)
