I attached a simple testcase that shows the problem.

Add some printf() to attachInterface() so you can see when it gets

ActionScript code in frame 3 (1-based):

function loadfile(fname) {
        file = new FileIO();
        if (!file.fopen(fname, "r")) 
                return null;
        var txt = file.fread();
        return txt;

uptime = loadfile("/proc/uptime"); // "Uptime:" text field
if (!cycles) cycles=0;
cycles++;    // "Cycles:" text field
