Well blow me away!!!
This actually worked!

No circling dots!

I tried a few other videos.
Some apparently are barred from being played from the filesystem.
Some, for some reason, brought up my Chromium browser...!?!?!
One, I think stopped, after a bit (I think that was when the first browser window popped up - both Chromium invocations were merely "New Tab" - no actual page attempted.)

For a laugh, try gnash  -v -M gst 'http://www.youtube.com/v/523uxFMUTGA?version=2'
...this brought up two separate Chromium windows...  weird.
[I attach the output from this, in case you can figure out what's up with the browser.
Oh!   I see where it happened (if not why...)  In my text editor, where I pasted the output, I can see two instances of "Created new window in existing browser session."  (although there WAS no existing browser session for Chromium, just Firefox - FF was part of the install pkg for Lubuntu 13.10, so I had to install Chromium (which USED to be a Lubuntu default), so maybe when I installed Chromium, it was made the "default browser"...)]

Anyway, I will try altering the config file and see if gnash works in the browser as well.  I'll keep you posted.
