If you can get to a terminal (try Ctrl-Alt-F1 when it starts to have
trouble, you can probably either run "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get
upgrade" or "sudo dpkg -reconfigure -a".  WARNING: check the man page or
the output of the first command for the exact second command - I don't
use it enough to be sure of what it is.  The second half of the first
command should tell you the dpkg command to run if you need it, though.
