nokia6210 & GNOKIID Version 0.4.0pre19

hi everybody,

i can't get gnokii to work with my nokia 6210.
any help would be most appreciated.

below is a complete description of what i have done
so far. i hope this is of any use.

i have a dell-inspiron7500-suse7.3-box
the version of gnokii which comes with the suse-distribution turned
out to be too old to support the nokia 6210.
so i got me the gnokii-0.4.0pre19.tar archive from the net and did:

> configure --prefix=/usr --with-x --enable-security 
--with-xgnokiidir=/usr/lib
> make
# make-install.

after that i had these files on my system

and some man and doc files. next i did
# groupadd gnokii
# cd /usr/sbin/
# chown root:gnokii mgnokiidev
# chmod 4750 mgnokiidev
# ls -al mgnokiidev

and put myself into group gnokii.

(sorry, can't help that name ...)

anything wrong with this up to now ?????

next i configured the irda connection as follows
# modprobe irda
# modprobe irtty
# irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s 1

placing the nokia 6210 into sight of the ir-port this gives me

then i placed the .gnokiirc file into my home dir and commented
away everything except

this was when i thought that it was about time to '...have a lot of fun...'
so i did:

mm..., not so funny.
next i checked with irdadump that upon ivocation of /usr/sbin/gnokiid there
was at least a strong increase of irda traffic ... for some time:

/usr/sbin/gnokiid died with error somewhere here ....

next i was bold enough to removed all irda-modules: irda, irtty, ircomm,
ircomm-tty and, step by step modprobed each of them while trying
/usr/sbin/gnokiid at each level of loaded irda-modules, both with
port = /dev/ttyS1 and with port = /dev/ircomm0 in .gnokiirc. But
for all configurations other than the preceeding i got:

beeing just an average user and no linux-guru
this is as far as i can get without H E L P.
so indeed, i would very much appreciate any of your advice
on how to get gnokii working with my nokia 6210.
