Nokia 3110 working?

Hi everybody,
I've just subscribed here, so please forgive my possible silly questions.
I've got a Nokia 3110 - perfectly working with the Nokia Data Suite 1.0 under
Windoz 95, so, I've got the original Nokia cable.
Since I am not using Win, I would like to use it under Linux (currently, RH7.2).
Time ago I tried gnokii < 0.3.2 (when no data calls were possible), and I was
really very happy when data calls were available.
However, using gnokii --monitor or xgnokii or.... seldom I experienced messages
like this one:

# gnokii --monitor
TX_SendMessage - write:: Input/output error
0x4a Write failed!TX_SendMessage - write:: Input/output error
0x4a Write failed!TX_SendMessage - write:: Input/output error
0x4a Write failed!TX_SendMessage - write:: Input/output error
0x4a Write failed!Hmmm... GSM_LinkOK never went true. Quitting.

Anyway, it *IS* working sometimes! I can remember doing some datacalls with
gnokii 0.3.2.... and if I try and retry, it will work for a while...

Then, a couple of days ago, upgraded to 0.4.x - now it says:
Telephone interface init failed! Quitting.

I tried hundred of times, but it won't work.
Downgrading do 0.3.x I can get the previous behaviour.

I also tried changin the phone (with another 3110), the computer... not the
cable but, sorry to repeat, it *works* under the other os.

Will anybody be so nice to give me some clue? I am thinking the development for
the 3110 driver is stopped, even if I read something in the 0.4.x news.
But I am very surprised about its behaviour with gnokii 0.3.x.

I am thinking about buying a new phone (Nokia 6610 or 7210 when they will be
available, hoping they will work under gnokii) but this will be the future... I
am living the present - my honourable 3110.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Ivan
