keysequence without simcard

Hello,

does gnokii --keysequence work without simcard? As someone tried it?

Background:
In Germany the provider sell phones with prepaid contracts. These contract are 
interesting for users doing a low amount of phone calls because they pay only 
for the calls, no basic rate. But this phones have a sim lock. After two year 
you can ask the provider to give you the code to remove the sim lock. The 
code needs to be entered when the sim card is outside the phone. The code is 
very long and the phone clear the entered code after a very short time. So 
typeing the complete code is not so easy.

It would be helpful to use gnokii for this.
