Not sure about the serial driver on FC4 but I have compiled gnokii
with no problems. Do you happen to have the kernel headers installed?
I think you need the kernel-devel package.

I have rpms for FC4 of the latest version of gnokii if your interested
but not for the kernel package.

BTW is there any plans to get the serial driver in the upstream kernel?
