Sorry for the double post, but it is worth mentioning here that the Fasttrack's 
use a Hayes AT command set, just like a regular serial-port connected modem 
(from the old days, for most of us). Makes for really easy testing...

Eg: 

AT+CMGS="SomePhoneNumber" <ENTER>
> text to send <CTRL+Z>
+CMGS: 3
OK
