Is gettext so much bloated ?

Well almost all pieces of software on my computer are translated in
several languages, and I believe most of them use gettext ...

$ ls foo
foo: No such file or directory.
$ setenv LANG fr_FR
$ ls foo
foo: Aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type.

So, "ls" can do it (I'm pretty sure this uses gettext). Is "ls" so
"fat" ? Same for cat, sed, rm, touch, ...

I don't think this is a problem to have dependancies on gettext.
Having an option to disable it is good, but I don't see any reason to
disable it by default.
