Can I make recommendations that you leave any whitespace alone at this
point and instead simply worry about getting rid of tabs in incoming
patches or even just reject them until they're fixed?  Then there
won't be any superfluous conflicts due to white space changes, but
incremental improvements as it makes sense.  (Hey, and getting to fix
up the white space in various files might motivate people to fix bad
code throughout the other files.)
