Sure.
Using fs-independent storage would be useful anyway because the cache is
badly hitting the worst-case space behaviour of ext3, in particular with
all those small ancestry files.
But grouping revisions by version just seems a reasonably useful and
simple way to do it without going all the way to zipfiles, sqlite or
whatever.
