That just means you have /usr/local/bin in your path twice. Try just creating and extracting a tarball with pc-tar. pc-tar cvf myfile.tar somedirectory/ mkdir tmp cd tmp pc-tar xvf ../myfile.tar Just to make sure that tar works by itself. It's possible that it has some dependency that I'm not aware of. John =:->
