escreen.el manages multiple "sessions" in a single emacs frame by keeping
track of window configuration, buffer position and/or process markers,
narrowing, and other details so that you can preserve different groups of
organized windows even when you are not actively using them.  create new

This package is most useful in older versions of emacs (any version of
Emacs after version 17, and all versions of Lucid Emacs and XEmacs, should
work though you may need a stub definition of the Customs interface; see
comments below) which do not support multiple frames or indirect buffers;
this package emulates some of these features, e.g. you can have different
narrowed regions in the same buffer on different escreens.  I mostly use
emacs in tty mode where frames are awkward, or find that new frame
creation, placement, and refocus is more labor-intensive than just creating
a new escreen (2 keystrokes), so I make pretty heavy use of this program.
I don't have any idea when I last posted this, but it must have been years
ago.  Since then I've added Customs support, fixed a few bugs, and added a
few new features (e.g. each escreen now has its own notion of the buffer
list order, so switching between escreens won't cause C-xb to bring up a
buffer that was recently used in another escreen).
