xcsope.el is a good interface of cscope for emacs, but it is too slow for searching. That's because xscope.el create new process and load the cross reference database for every query. This waste a lot of time. Another interface of cscope for emacs called "bscope.el" use different way. It will open a cscope process and load the database only at the initial time and only once, all query will process by this process. The searching of bscope.el is very fast. But bscope.el has it's own drawback, it will open all files relate to the searching result and stop on the last file's buffer. For a big code tree this drawback means hundreds of files will be open after a searching. In my ascope.el I merge the xcscope.el and bscope.el together. I only open the cscope process once. All searching query will be handle by this process. The searching result will be list in a buffer, the user can select the file he want to visit in this buffer. The user also can navigate with key "n" and "p" to the next and previous search result in the buffer, use "enter" to bury the search result buffer and go to the file you want to visit. I use this interface to read the code of linux kernel and glibc, it is very fast and convinient.

I post the code to the mail list last night but I can't see it in the thread, only see some "RE". This is my first time to use mail list, so I think I must made some mistake. Here I post it again.
Below is the code of ascope.el:

;; Another cscope interface for emacs
;; Wrtitten by Staton Sun
;; my email address is address@hidden
;; comment:
;; Because xcscope.el open a new process of "cscope -L" for each a
;; definition, it's wasting time for reloading cscope and reopening
;; database.
;;Another cscope interface called bscope can get the search result quick but it is weak in the presentation of search result. ;;This script merge the xcscope.el and bscope.el together make it fast and versatile

;; Usage:
;;load this script using (require 'ascope.el) in you .emacs
;; M-x ascope-init load the cscope database. This command must be issue prior to issue any other command blew, the directory feed to this command must be the directory include the cscope.out file
