At first I thought it was great -- I plug in my Palm Zire 21 and the Kpilot
daemon starts and pumps in the data to Linux.
Then I discover that only some of the file types are there, and others are
not ( calendar, notes ).
Then I discover connectors -- great. It works fine for Schedule and I even
got the Memoes to go to KNotes ( little yellow postit Notes on the
screen ).
Yet -- I am missing somethings. I don't see a connector for expenses. And,
I don't see a way to transfer PalmOS notes -- that include graphics -- to
Linux.
I tried JPilot and cannot get it to work. I shut down the KPilot and press
the sync button and it sits there with the message:
Error reading AddressDB.pdb
****************************************
Syncing on device /dev/pilot
Press the HotSync button now
****************************************
I press the HotSync button on the Zire and it just sits there until it times
out.
The biggest problem of all is that assuming I only use KPilot -- sometimes
it works and sometimes it doesn't. If I reboot, then it tends to work.
But if I do a bunch of other stuff ( play bzflag, post, use a browser) then
KPilot stops reading the Palm Zire changes...the sync just sits there -- it
doesn't play the little notes.
So, then I boot into Windopes and run the Palm Desktop to /reset/ the Zire
-- or something. It always works. Then I boot back into Linux and KPilot
will typically work.
Bottom line: There is something far more robust about the Palm Desktop for
Windows than either KPilot or JPilot.
It not only handles EVERY feature of my Zire -- it always works every time.
GLOSS ( Gnu Linix OSS ) -- PLEASE TELL ME YOU CAN DO A BETTER JOB !!!
