may be useful for this task.

>From the manual:
* diswarp() computes various measures of the distortion over a specified range
of coordinates.

* linwarp() computes various measures of the distortion over a specified range
of pixel coordinates. If all distortions are prior, then linwarp() uses
diswarp().
