[Daniel Bump]

I asked Wolfgang Manner for more information about his failure
to build. Teun suggested that the problem was with DEC make.
Wolfgang used to be able to build on this machine but not
any more. This make doesn't seem to tell you what the
target is, i.e. each of the four long lines below is identical.

Is this make broke or are we doing something wrong?

ok i removed all the *.o files in patterns and reran make

this is the output. unfortunately it doesnt say very much
i can probably get the gnu make from the web and install it. but since i am not 
the
system manager in this place, i dont feel very much like doing it
i have also tried to compile dfa.c and then run make, but this gives the same 
problem
