I'll put together some test cases from that this evening, if no one beats
me to it.

I don't know whether gnugo manages to create semeais when playing itself,
but you might get some interesting testcases with matcher_check, by
running

matcher_check --program 'gnugo_new_semeai --mode gtp --quiet' --stable
'gnugo_old_semeai --mode gtp --quiet' --noilcheck --sgffile semeai.sgf

This will only produce cases that gnugo can get itself into, and only
highlight differences between the two versions, not errors common to both,
but that might be useful to leave running overnight.
