[gnugo-devel] floats

I notice from various posts, that GNU Go is now using floats in a few
places.  In the past we'd steered away from using floats because they
tend to cause platform dependent differences.  Was there a conscious
decision made that the ease of code maintenance outweighs the benefit
of identical performance cross-platform?
