Regardless of anything unclear about the kprinter approach, clearly my Debian 
install as-is is not generating the desired output. Ideas? Am I missing some 
new dependency?

If I did get the time (but maybe not for a couple of weeks) I might install a 
Squeeze vm in order to detect when the difference between testing and stable 
originates troubles.

However it may be nice to solve this earlier.
