Don't forget that any Java implementation is running *on top* of the C libraries, still requiring them too (AFAIK).
That said, Python is bloat too to some degree: due to it's dynamic nature it uses huge amounts of RAM, something that is too often forgotten. It is just very humble in terms of disk usage.
