I would never use PGSQL over the internet directly
though it could be tunelled over SSH if necessary.

OSCAR SSL access is executed by Apache (which in this case acts as a
front end to Tomcat) via mod_ssl, Apache's interface to OpenSSL.  From
and end user perspective, SSL is achieved by accepting the certificate
in your browser (as you haven't purchased a Verisign or Thawte
certificate ;)...need more info?


OpenSSL is free; the licensing really only comes into play if one is
distributing software that uses OpenSSL.
