Ok I tried it. The installation instruction a good. They work.

I made a shell script which contain the instructions.
Just get wxPython and place it in /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/

That's where is belongs.

Now run wx2.5.sh and depending on your machine you will end up with a ready to 
go wx2.5 in /opt/wx

I could have added wget to grab the file ...

What doesn't work for me still is setting the appropriate environment 
variables.

This has noting to do with the installation mentioned above which works 
perfectly fine.
