Jim, If you download the svn from
http://ozdocit.org/websvn/listing.php?repname=wagtail&path=%2F&sc=0
You will find that
1) The GUI is run from gui/wxWagtail.py
You can set up your configuration options using the gui.
2) The code to receive messages is in
wagmail/wagMail.py
3) The code to send messages is in
wagmail/wagSend.py
4) The X509 certificate manager / SMIME stuff is in
testing/python_certman/certman.py
5) The php code for the ldapserver interface is in
ldap/php
