If your system is not heavily screwed up there should be no need to reinstall.
Unless you deleted various things manually. Sarge is a good option since most
(?) GNUmed developers use it or another Debian derivative. So be patient and
don't reinstall if you don't have to.

Let the Debian guys here help you with setting up your environment. As far as
I know it is posssible to install python 2.3 and 2.4 concurrently in Debian
so hang tight as I supsect we will nail down the problem.

Since I know Karsten uses Sarge I guess your python might be screwed. There
should be ways to reinstall it with tools like apt-get.

apt-get install gnumed-client should solve all your dependencies for version
0.1. If apt doesn't seem to find gnumed-client let the guys tell you how to
add Debian testing to your sources list. If you got gnumed 0.1 running you
have a stable base and can be guided through the install of wxpython2.6 and
python2.4. But I will leave this to the Debian guys on this list.

Please report if you have any success with apt-get install gnumed-client.
