Ah! ok, I had lost sight of the fact that it was likely my database upgrade 
from v15 --- (all the way up to) ---> newest git that caused rc4 to no longer 
work.

Now that I went back and upgraded database v15 ---- 'only' to rc4 version --->  
v16, the rc4 client is again working :-)
