steve,

it would help if i read the debug wouldn't it!    thanks for providing this prog by the way - i think its great and well worth a wishlist bump...
following your suggestion i made /opt/lib/perl5/5.8.6/gnump3d owned by nobody:everyone and chmodded
and hey presto i can now view http://localserver:8888 (with user root or nobody)

still some errors where some plugins are pointing to /usr/bin/perl instead of /opt/bin/perl but i will search the makefile and subdirs to find those and re-compile

however, http://wwwserver:8888 is still stubbornly resistant "Loading......" with user as root or nobody
this might be down to the opt/bin prob above or a further config prob...
i wonder if my ISP has started blocking 8888?   it did work ok the other day.
Maybe i should try a port with a much higher number?
Is there a command in linux to "ping" www.myserver.com on port 8888 to see if it is accessible?

bren

  There's your problem!  The file
  /opt/lib/perl5/5.8.8/gnump3d/plugins/random.pm appears to be
  unreadable as user 'nobody'.
