Hi Marcelo,

Hi David,

I was not complaining about the processing speed. I'm running in debug
mode and probably without compiler optimization options. The problem
was with the tempo. But today I discovered that I need to open the
Intonation Parameters window and set the Tempo to 1.0. It seems that
the default is 0.2. And this was slowing down the processing too.

OK -- good.

But the synthesized speech doesn't have intonation applied. Do I need
to follow some procedure like the above?

You need to open the Intonation and Intonation Parameters windows (under "Tools" in the menu at the top) and check "Intonation" in the Intonation Parameters window, plus your choice in the Intonation Control sub-panel of that menu. Select all of those for a first shot. You should then be able to synthesize with automatically applied intonation and see the resulting contour in the Intonation window.

You must have checked out the Monet manual. I probably need to expand on that section. If you have other queries, specific or general, I would be more than happy to help some more.

I can't use the binary because I don't have a Mac, that's why I'm
trying to make GnuSpeech work in Linux/Gnustep.

Of course -- you had already told me that. Sorry. You might borrow a Mac just to try out that version as a model (or, even better, borrow a NeXT and you have the whole works! You could even buy a NeXT from Blackhole Inc -- they are fairly inexpensive these days. The son of one of my RCAF flying buddies runs that outfit, by a strange coincidence).

Warm regards.

Thanks,

Hi Marcelo,

Did I send you a working binary of Monet before? I can't remember. Try the attached for speed and operation. It is obviously pre-release (quite old, in fact -- basically what Steve Nygard first produced), but may be faster than what you have. I won't include the source cos that's a whole pile more bits. If you want it (it's pre the Gnustep mods) I can send it later. There's an md5 sig and I was planning to put it on the savannah site, so
comments would be wlecome.

Warm regards.
