I tested as of
commit 6ee0ea6ca66136579ebfbbd0f013144d76f5b85d
Author: Eric S. Raymond <address@hidden>

on a 10.7 mac (3 year old macbook pro), and it ran ok with a GR601-W.
There is no sign of pps support on the mac (as in
/usr/include/sys/ppstime.h does not exist).
scons didn't find ncurses5.4-config which apple provides, but I'd be
inclined to install ncurses from pkgsrc anyway.
cgps worked.
xgps failed, apparently missing prereqs:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/pkg/bin/xgps", line 19, in <module>
import gobject, pygtk
ImportError: No module named gobject
which appear pretty obvious, but I didn't see them in building.txt.
I ran the regression tests and they all passed.
