I was taking the long view and assuming that knowing how to use git more
effectively is good in general, rather than just worrying about the most
expeditious way to get this one patch in.

I recall Eric complaining about problems with trying to get patches from
*GitHub pull requests*, but that's not the same thing as just fetching
commits from GitHub.  AFAIK, Eric's never even tried the latter.

I'll do that now, but having confirmed that "git am" is smart enough to
remove "[PATCH]" tags, "[gpsd-dev]" tags, and "Re:", I'll just send it the
usual way.  Try it.  I think that's what Eric normally does.  If your git
screws it up, maybe you're running an ancient version (2.9.1 here).

You can also try the other way and see if you get the same result. :-)

If you can't get either to work, I'll send it as an attachment.
