Yup. Looks like an 11 year old known bug in scons:

It would have to be yet another clean target. Since the bug is 11 years
old, I just reverted my bad commit, and added a message to the user to
manually remove that file.
Something for next cycle, there are some others about scons cleaning to
also fix, and we dont need to go down that rabbit hole this week.
Only thing holding up the release is the ubxtool remote host bug that I
can not duplicate. But I'll not wait long on that.
