I wonder if you see this being usable in a useful way with just gpsd, or
if people also need a bunch of other code, and if so if that code is
Free Software. It seems like the code to deal with this shouldn't be
that much, and it could well end up part of gpsd. (Presumably there's a
need to suspend the POSIX computer and leave the USB GNSS receiver
powered up, although that's sort of separate.)
A big picture question is that right now gpsd sort of assumes that
reports from the receiver are for nowish, although there are
timestamps. It would be interesting to see if timestamps that aren't
nowish are properly carried through the entire processing chain, perhaps
with a 'historical' bit set in the json.
(I also found your mail hard to read as it seems there's lots of
incorrect line wrapping going on.)
Watching commit logs, it looks like Gary has made several improvements
to the batch processing code.
I am unclear on whether it's good there is an insistence on receiving
periodic frames normally. But it seems easy enough to have some kind of
control mechanism where gpsd can know that it's in an unusual situation.
