You not run sudo, ever, security risk, bad habit.  Do this: su -
sudo, by default, never asks your root passoword.  Leaving you open to
'evil maid' attacks.  'su' always asks for password, and the "#" prompt
is a clue to BE CAREFUL.

How long did you wait?

What does ntpshmmon say?  It should look like this:
