I've tested this by building with defaults on Fedora 37, then with a
sibling ../pcre2 clone configured/built on pcre2-10.40-112-g6277357
With that, I recompiled grep like this:
make AM_CFLAGS=-I../../pcre2/src PCRE_LIBS=../../pcre2/.libs/libpcre2-8.a
and confirmed that compiled out the new workaround code completely
and passed the two tests specific to that case (using pcre-10.43 or newer).
