[Groff] fonts, again

There's an easy way to avoid compatibility problems when
trying to mount Times fonts -- just don't do it.  Both groff
and the version of troff I use have the following defaults:


    font position        font

           1             Roman
           2             Italic
           3             Bold
           4             Bold Italic
           5             Constant width (Courier)

However, for higher font positions, groff and troff part company:

    position        troff                   groff

       6            Helvetica               Roman
       7            Helvetica Italic        Italic
       8            Helvetica Bold          Bold
       9            Roman [Yuck!]           Bold Italic

Is this incompatibility intentional?
