This is correct. In fact, the above works with any macro package. I tend
to use the syntax
some text \f(CRmore text\fP original font.
where font 'P' stands for 'Previous font'

To be pedantic -Tps and -Tdvi...
You cannot generally expect the same fonts to be available for different
devices. Times Roman is the default font with the postscript device,
whereas computer modern from TeX is the default with the dvi driver.
