Two comments on this document.
. While it is true that many parts of groff's texinfo manual isn't
finished, the GNU troff reference is complete.
. You write
It's often hard to see what's groff extensions and what's not.
It seems that you haven't noticed the groff_diff(7) man page which
gives exactly that.
