Indeed, for the autotools themselves it's better to use the tarballs
to get stable releases. However, you can (normally) bootstrap the git
repositories of the autotools with the help of older autotools quite
easily: Just call the `bootstrap.sh' scripts in the respective
top-level git directories, followed by `configure', `make', and `make
install'.
