Hmmm.  I have not checked it yet with my recent version of linux.  But,
what do you mean by saying we should share the test cases?  I did not add
those test cases to the main branch, because I wanted to get some comments
on the changes to the code, from other guile users as well as from the
maintainers.  Only then, if the API and the implementation was given an OK
I wanted to add the stuff and the test cases.  Mikael then took some time
to look into it, but then he ran into the described problems and did not
investigate further, neither did I.

Maybe now is a good time to resurrect that code.  But, I'd still prefer if
people with more thread programming experience than me would take a close
look at the code.  I have added lots of comments and FIXME remarks at
places where I was not sure about how things should work.
