Nope, I use a snapshot from april 1st myself because of a problem with
current CVS and variable references set up by AM_CONDITIONALS in _SOURCES
targets.  Gary Vaughan has recently released patchlevel-releases based
on Automake 1.4 though (p2 is current I believe), but I don't know which
bugs they fix.

Sure can :)  CVS Automake has undergone a more-or-less fundamental rewrite.
Not everything they broke in that process has been fixed again.
