OK. I found the test case that was failing, though I haven't had a
chance to figure out *why* yet:
PATH=/home/rlb/opt/guile-1.5/bin:${PATH} \
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/rlb/opt/guile-1.5/lib guile
guile> (gcd most-negative-fixnum most-negative-fixnum)
0

This is on an ia64 machine.
