Tom, you seem to be the only person on this thread who thinks the behavior
is erroneous.  Would you mind taking the discussion to private e-mails, as I
for one am not particularly interested?  Perhaps someone will be kind enough
to post when the issue is resolved.

   aware of the history.  Without that background, their reactions to
   your assertions are likely to be different.


Now you are aware.  Instead of dwelling on why the error was
committed, why not consider how best to fix it?
