I think the gcc packages defined in (gnu packages gcc) are not meant for
users. Instead running:

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
 guix build --system=i686-linux gcc-toolchain
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

works for me.
