There's no reason it should help: builds are completely isolated from the host 
environment. There is nothing you can do to influence them.

I'm sorry I can't help though, because I have a charger issue for my laptop. I 
don't remember having an issue with claws-mail recently, so maybe try to run 
guix pull if you're not already on the latest version.

Otherwise, what is the version of libetpan in guix and does it contain a 
libetpan-config?
